CLASSES/SUMMER PROGRAMS
READING SKILLS programs for age groups from pre-kindergarten to college students and adults are offered by John Carroll University’s Continuing Education Programs at locations in Parma Hts. And Strongsville. Programs meet for 2 hrs one day a week for 5 weeks. On Thursdays, Fridays, or Sundays. For information call 1-800-978-9596.
ROBOTICS CAMP for students in 5th through 8th grades meets for 2-hour sessions twice a week from Monday, June 22 through Saturday, July 11, at the Cleveland Public Library’s Brooklyn Branch in Brooklyn Centre (216-623-6920) and Jefferson Branch in Tremont (216-623-7004). Teams will build a robot, compete for an award, and participate in the Ingenuity Festival on Saturday, July 11. Application deadline is June 6th. CAREER EXPLORATION CAMP for middle school minority students with hearing loss will be held August 7-9 at Rochester Insitute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf. CHILDREN’S MUSEUM SUMMER DISCOVERY CAMPS for 4-6 year olds feature art and discovery activities at the museum and outdoor activities. For information call 216-791-7114.

FARM AND GARDEN DAY on Saturday, June 6 from 11am-4 pm at Garfield Park Nature Center features live farm animals, antique and modern farm equipment, demonstrations, square dancing, and children’s hands-on activities. FIRE SAFETY FAIR for children will be held Saturday, June 6, from 10 am –4 pm at Franklin Circle Christian Church, 1688 Fulton Road. See a fire truck, talk to Cleveland firefighters, learn about fire safety, plus enjoy puppet shows, face painting, fun, and a light lunch. RECREATION
CLEVELAND POOL SCHEDULES:
OUTDOOR POOLS open Saturday, June 20. Outdoor pools will be open from 12 noon –7:30 pm on Wednesdays through Sundays. INDOOR POOLS are open during the summer 6 days a week, closed Sundays. Weekday hours are 12 noon – 7:30 pm; Saturday hours from 10 am to 5:30 pm
LEARN TO SWIM CLASSES are available at Cleveland Recreation Dept. rec centers and outdoor pools. Register through June 12th at any recreation center. After June 20, registration continues on site.
SUMMER JUNIOR GOLF for Cleveland youth ages 9-17 Is offered by Cleveland Recreation Department at Cleveland First Tee Golf Course at Washington Park, E. 49th and Fleet. Transportation available from Estabrook Rec Center, 4125 Fulton, or Gunning Park, 16700 Puritas. Registration ends June 19th; program runs from June 23-Aug. 14. Beginning and intermediate players meet Tuesdays and Thursdays in morning or afternoon, advanced players Wednesday and Friday mornings. For information call 216-664-3016.
SPRAY BASINS at Fairview Park (W.38th and Franklin) and Mercedes Cotner (W.95th and Maywood) are open when the temperature reaches 80 degrees between June 22nd and August 16th. Spray basin hours are 11 am-6 pm on weekdays, noon-7 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
SUMMER TENNIS program registration at Cleveland rec centers ends June 13th, with classes beginning June 22 for ages 8-17. Classes will be held at Cudell Rec Center at 1910 West Blvd., Halloran Courts at 3550 W.117th Street, and Jefferson Courts, W.132nd Street , south of Lorain.
SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM offers free lunches at Cleveland Recreation Centers for kids age 1-18, weekdays between June 15 and August 21 from noon –1 pm. Boxed lunches are also available at staffed playgrounds between 11:30-1:30, depending on delivery time. Children must be present at delivery time. Free summer lunches are also available at Cleveland Public Library branches; call your local branch for serving times and days.
SUMMER BREAKFAST PROGRAM will be available for kids weekdays, 9:30 – 10 am, at Michael Zone Rec Center, 6301 Lorain, and Halloran Rink, 3350 West 117th Street.
