St. Ignatius High School athletes honored
(Plain Press, April 2010) On Sunday March 14th the Saint Ignatius hockey team defeated Sylvania Northview to win the Ohio High School Athletic Association state championship 4-1. The team was recognized at a rally held at the school on March 16th.
This is the second state title for the hockey team and first state title for Coach Pat O'Rourke '90. The program's first championship was in 2000. Sophomore Paddy Spellacy scored his 43rd goal of the season, a new school record. The Wildcats closed their season with a record of 31-7-3, also now the all-time best record within Saint Ignatius hockey.
Three Saint Ignatius wrestlers were also recognized for competing in the state championships the weekend of March 6. Senior Jerome Robinson won his second state title by wining the 119-pound championship. He won his first state title at 112 pounds in 2009.
Senior David Habat finished second in the 152-pound championship and sophomore George DiCamillo garnered a third place finish in the 103-pound championship. The Wildcats placed fifth in the team standings at 63.5 points. This is the second consecutive top-five team finish for Coach Mark Sullivan.
